There was a lot of noise coming from our table the night we decided to try Skull. Sideways looks, squinted eyes, and beads of cold sweat could be found all around the table with the inevitable roar of laughter and cheers to follow. A simple card game of 4 cards per player that stirs even the most stoic player into a gregarious frenzy. There is a lot to breakdown here so I’m going to get right to it with our review of Skull.

The elusive Game Night board game. It is harder to find than one might think. Several criteria need to be met before the distinguished ‘Game Night Essential’ title can be bestowed. A player count of 4+, easy to teach, replayability, and a reasonable play time are all equally important when considering such an honor. Our game group is a mixed bunch with a public meeting location so these essential games become vital to our continuance as we are now. Hi guys! The last two weeks have been crazy in my world, so I took a little break from writing so that I could take care of all the stuff I needed to, but I’m back now. I’ve missed you. This week, I have another TCBG interview for you. I was finally able to sit down with some of our regular gamers and conduct some interviews, so you can look forward to seeing those interviews posted here over the summer. Here is what I’ve observed in all of my interviews. Asking a board gamer what their favorite board game is can be a difficult question. I usually have to temper the question with “what is your current favorite board game?” I’ve also learned that beating Kyle is often a gamers biggest achievement in board gaming. This week, our subject is Jim. Jim has been playing board games with TCBG for about a year.

Dear Board Game Diary,
The conversation at Game Night last week was flowing like the games and the brews: frequently and passionately. It’s nice when a game can spark some light conversation and let’s one in on the thoughts of the people at the table. We were discussing a game that most of us were in agreement on that we have frequently passed on as it has lost its initial luster. I described the game as being very static and my preference for a more dynamic experience.

Hello and happy Monday! As you all know, I’m a mom of 3 and I’m homeschooling my youngest 2 kidlets. Since board games are a big part of our life, I’ve often thought of the way that board games can be used to enhance the homeschool lessons that I teach. As we’ve seen, Janeway, my oldest, has used board games to help her learn economics. But board games have benefits for smaller children as well.
