Summer is in full swing here in Traverse City, Michigan. This means festivals, beaches, boats, and less indoor activities. This includes things like board games. I can’t really blame anyone as if you live in Michigan then your aware of how short the summer months can feel. I have also found myself catching some sun instead of playing games. Enough about not gaming and lets talk about what happened in July.

We saw less attendance during our normal game night but saw an increase in separate game nights. I’ve looked at this as evidence of the season. Summer means summer time fun and game nights are better if it can be worked around the weather. This isn’t to say that we will be moving into the realm of requested game nights because consistency means everything going forward. Players need to know the time and the place so their is never a question.
The amount of games we played did fall a bit but the amount of different games played seemed to stay consistent with last month. This was very interesting when looking at this statistic with the lower attendance. I think players are moving toward some new horizons and getting comfortable with the “staple” games that come to every game night. Though games like Splendor and Ticket to Ride both get played more than many other of the games, they also see quicker game time so moving to newer games comes faster. This may be completely off the mark but warrants further analysis in future months.
The idea of the request book is slowly catching on as players are requesting games of past game nights in higher frequency. I’m also looking at posting monthly statistics in the book as to increase interest. Something simple yet effective as players will often reference these statistics when talking about the games they play on game night. It’s a great meta game experience that I love can be apart of game night.
The later start time of game night seems to be for the most part a good thing for summer. I have heard that some gamers are not able to show with the game time that late but most of the others don’t want to be there that early in the day with summer activities taking up most of their days. I will keep this the time until the Fall when I’ll adjust it back to 2 pm.
Happy Gaming!

I enjoyed the write up a lot Kyle. You can definitely tell there’s a lot of effort going into the recording of stats while also in trying to make the experience enjoyable for everyone involved. Keep on keepin on
