Hi ladies and gents! Our next introduction is Eric Benac. He has written some board game reviews. You can find them by searching the site for The Benac Briefings. He\u2019s been a member of the Traverse City Board Gamers for about 3 years, going on 4 years. In the previous installment, we were introduced to the “Evil Eric.” And now we shall meet, the “Good Eric” of the TCBG. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

How did your board\ngame journey start? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started playing board games in college. I had a friend named Matt who was into games, and he got me into playing. Carcassonne was the game that started it all for me. After graduation, I didn\u2019t play much until I moved to Traverse City and joined the group. In joining the group, I found a nice set of friends. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What is your favorite\nstyle of board game? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like games that are worker placement where there isn\u2019t a singular path to victory and multiple strategies are effective, games like Caverna. You have to be able to adapt your strategy in order to win if someone starts taking the actions that you wanted to do. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What are your\nfavorite board game(s)? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caverna, Scythe, Flashpoint, Carcassonne (it\u2019s the one that got me started)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

How would you\ndescribe yourself as a gamer? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like to play in a style that is non-combative and unobtrusive. I like to do my thing without people noticing that I\u2019m doing well so they don\u2019t come after me. I like to sneak in like a spy. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What has been your\ngreatest achievement in board games? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going from not understanding Scythe to winning two or three games because it is a complex game that requires careful thinking. I went from being unable to play it to becoming a good player at it. It keeps me coming back to it. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

How did you get your\nnickname of \u201cthe good Eric?\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two Erics, I was evil Eric initially because of my beard, the evil Spock thing. I\u2019m less combative than Eric Homminga. By comparison, I became the good Eric. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What direction would\nyou like to see TCBG go in the future? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tournaments are fun and they bring in people who might not ordinarily come. I like the competitive nature of the tournaments. So, more tournaments and different games.\u00a0 We are a pretty inclusive group. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
